Skillz Academy is seeking a driven and personable individual to develop, design and execute strategies for career preparation, career success and ongoing mentorship opportunities after students graduate from Skillz Academy’s training programs. As Director of Coaching and Alumni Services, you will be responsible for building an effective coaching organization that provides ongoing support to students immediately after graduation and throughout the first year of their employment. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing, launching and managing an alumni network organization that ensures that alumni stay engaged with Skillz Academy and its network of graduates and professionals. You will be a core member of the company’s executive team and will help develop the company’s brand as the leading source of diverse talent for business oriented jobs in tech in the United States. The Director of Coaching and Alumni Services role is a part-time contractor position and is compensated hourly with the potential to move into a full time position compensated with a combination of salary, benefits, and equity.  

 

Who We Are 

Skillz Academy is the training arm of Upriver Solutions, a Job Tech company that is focused on recruiting, training and placing diverse candidates from underrepresented backgrounds in business oriented tech jobs. We like to think of ourselves as focused on the “business of tech” as opposed to the “science of tech” and as a result you won’t find any coders, engineers  or developers in our classes – all of our programs focus on the business side of tech. Our first program is an intensive, software sales training bootcamp that is specifically designed to make it easy for people from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds including women, minorities, and/or those from low income communities to gain an onramp to high paying jobs in tech. 

 

Responsibilities

Strategy

  • Develop a system to track, analyze, and address graduates’ questions, concerns, and challenges about their career starting with the period immediately beginning after they graduate and continuing through their first job and beyond
  • Create a method of monitoring and evaluating graduates’ retention, career progress, and job satisfaction over time
  • Design and implement an industry leading and cost efficient coaching and mentorship model that provides active and ongoing support to graduates through the first year of post graduation
  • Conceptualize, document, develop and execute a long-term plan to keep alumni connected and involved with Skillz Academy throughout the arc of their career
  • Special projects/initiatives as assigned

 

Career Preparation andMentorship  

  • Offer graduates ongoing guidance around selling, fitting in, and building a career in sales
  • Advise graduates on professional etiquette, language, and attire
  • Assist graduates with identifying strengths and areas of improvement to help build career and leadership skills 
  • Provide guidance on skill building and networking opportunities for graduates
  • Gain an understanding of graduates’ success inhibiting barriers and challenges to help them set goals and achieve their long term vision

 

Training and Management

  • Recruit, train, and manage a team of coaches with sales experience 
  • Connect regularly with coaches to ensure they are providing active guidance and support to Skillz Academy graduates

Ongoing Alumni Engagement

  • Establish a system and process for regularly checking in with alumni to ensure that they feel supported by and connected to Skillz Academy 
  • Implement engagement activities such as alumni meetups, networking opportunities, peer mentorships, etc that include digital and in-person connection points

 

Position Requirements

Knowledge & Experience

  • 3+ years of coaching, mentoring or counseling experience
  • 5+ years of sales or business development experience, preferably in a technology company
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office/Google for Work Apps
  • Interest in and passion for adult education and diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • A demonstrated commitment to making the world a better place exemplified through volunteering, past work experience, and/or familiarity with theories of economic empowerment and social justice

Compensation

The Director of Coaching and Alumni Services role is a part-time contractor position and is compensated hourly with the potential to move into a full time position compensated with a combination of salary, benefits, and equity.
